FLORA<\/a><\/strong> (FLuent Oral Reading Assessment): \u00a0 \u00a0FLORA is a program that automatically assesses students\u2019 oral reading fluency, the most efficient and predictive measure of children\u2019s reading proficiency. \u00a0 It addresses school districts\u2019 and individual teachers\u2019 needs to screen students each school year to identify students that require interventions, and the need to monitor progress in response to interventions. Elementary school teachers across the U.S. spend up to 6 days each school year assessing students\u2019 reading proficiency. FLORA is the only automatically assesses students\u2019 oral reading fluency.<\/p>\n

My Science Tutor<\/a>:<\/strong> MyST is an intelligent tutoring system in which students have natural spoken dialogs with a virtual science tutor about science being taught in classrooms.\u00a0\u00a0 It is designed as a supplement to classroom science instruction that teachers can use to improve student motivation and science achievement through individualized and adaptive instruction, with students learning how to engage in scientific discourse.\u00a0 MyST was developed under NSF and IES support (approximately $3M from NSF and $6M from Department of Education\u2019s IES since 2007).\u00a0 During the past 9 years, 140 tutorial dialog sessions, lasting 15 to 20 minutes, have been developed and evaluated in 8 areas of 3rd<\/sup>, 4th<\/sup> and 5th<\/sup> grade science. \u00a0\u00a0While we envision MyST as a supplement to any science curriculum aligned to national standards, it was developed and evaluated in classrooms that using the Full Option Science System (FOSS).<\/p>\n
